Keeping up with the place you live takes more effort than it should.

The news is on one site and the events are on another. A new restaurant opens and you hear about it from a friend three weeks later. The city changes something that affects your street, and it's in the ninth paragraph of a long article.

So we made one short email that puts it in one place. Each morning it covers the local news worth knowing, what's on, places worth trying, and the civic decisions that change day-to-day life. It takes about four minutes to read.

The news, and the reasons to go out

Knowing what's happening where you live matters, including the decisions being made at city hall and the stories that affect your neighborhood.

But that shouldn't be all of it. We give the same space to the good parts: a restaurant that just opened, or something free to do on Saturday. The aim is that you finish reading and want to go do something.

We leave most of it out

Any city has more going on than one person can follow, and we don't try to send you all of it.

We pull from local reporting, event calendars, public notices, and updates from businesses, community groups and people who know the city. Then we pick the few things worth your time and write them up plainly. We don't pad the email to make it look busy.
